Black Panther’s Okoye could return as Midnight Angel in Avengers: Doomsday
Danai Gurira could reportedly reprise her role as Okoye in Avengers: Doomsday as a Midnight Angel. During a June 2025 Q&A, Marvel insider Alex Perez said Okoye is currently operating as one of the “Eyes of Wakanda,” engaging in global black ops missions alongside Aneka. Perez confirmed, “I believe Danai Gurira will return for Avengers: Doomsday, since part of the story will involve the tense relations between Wakanda and Talokan” (via The Cosmic Circus).
Perez also clarified that Okoye’s Midnight Angel duties reflect Wakanda’s evolving geopolitical strategy following Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The Midnight Angels operate in secret, with missions aimed at protecting national interests beyond Wakanda’s borders.
In the same Q&A, Perez discussed the broader narrative of Avengers: Doomsday. He confirmed that the film will focus heavily on multiversal consequences caused by several heroes. These include Doctor Strange’s actions in No Way Home and Multiverse of Madness, Monica Rambeau’s entrapment in another universe, and Reed Richards’ experiments. Perez stated, “One of the main plot points… is that the MCU (and the multiverse in general) is currently caught in an endless cycle/loop.”
He added that Doomsday will center its main incursion around Earth-616 and the universe where the X-Men appear. Perez confirmed that the production team has already filmed action sequences for the X-Men, including scenes featuring Nightcrawler.
Captain America takes on a leading role, while Black Panther and Shang-Chi play key supporting parts. Doctor Strange remains a central figure in the saga, though his role in Doomsday is still uncertain. The Midnight Angels contribute to the ongoing Wakanda-Talokan conflict, which forms a major subplot within the film’s geopolitical storyline.
Avengers: Doomsday will release on December 18, 2026.
