Captain America 4’s Red Hulk Almost Had a Gun in Brave New World

The director of Captain America 4, Julius Onah, recently revealed that Harrison Ford’s Red Hulk almost carried a gun in the movie. The Anthony Mackie-led film debuted in theaters on February 14, 2025, and opened with $88 million at the box office. Despite being one of the most anticipated movies this year, Captain America: Brave New World received mixed reactions from both critics and fans.

The Cloverfield Paradox director recently sat down for a chat. He shared how Harrison Ford’s Red Hulk was almost given a gun in Captain America 4.

Julius Onah conveyed to JoBlo Celebrity Access that the idea was later scrapped. He stated, “There was a point in time, actually, it didn’t make the movie, where Red Hulk, arcing back to publishing, wielded a gun, and it just didn’t feel quite right for the actual movie.”

Onah further added that they did “have a moment with Harrison shooting as Red Hulk with a gun.” He described it as “one of those moments of like, I can’t believe this happening right now.”

In the comic books, the Red Hulk is known to utilize guns. Despite possessing super strength just like the Green Hulk, the Red Hulk has showcased his expertise in using guns in the comics. One of his most famous weapons is the S.H.I.E.L.D. handgun. This, according to a report by Screen Rant, “can injure gamma mutates” like the Green Hulk.

Previously, Harrison Ford talked about playing the Red Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and called it a great experience. The actor told Variety in December 2024 that he worked on understanding “the ambition of the filmmakers, and to be useful to them.” Ford further added, “It’s fun, and I enjoyed it. I had a great time.”
