While Marvel continues to maintain secrecy regarding plot details of Avengers: Doomsday, new set photos from the film seem to give a glimpse of what fans can expect from the movie. The images feature what appears to be a fallen Sentinel, causing interest among X-Men fans.
X-Men’s sentinels may have been spotted in new Avengers: Doomsday set photo
Several set photos and videos from Avengers: Doomsday have made their way onto the internet recently, highlighting a particular sequence from the film that could possibly include Sentinels.
On May 15, @UnBoxPHDFILM took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a plethora of images and clips from one of Avengers 5’s filming locations. The photos show what looks like a downed robot of gargantuan scale. While blue covers covered the majority of its mechanical body, some parts, including a giant foot and a mauve chestplate, were clearly visible in the released photos.
While it is difficult to precisely call out what or who the robot is, the color scheme and stature of the entity appear to indicate that it could be a Sentinel. Scooper @MyTimeToShineH also corroborated this theory by reposting @UnBoxPHDFILM’s tweets, along with the caption, “A Sentinel on the Avengers Doomsday set!”
According to Marvel comics, Sentinels are a group of super-powered machines, designed to terminate mutants. As such, they majorly serve as antagonists to the X-Men across all formats. The Sentinels made their big-screen debut through 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, which saw Peter Dinklage’s Bolivar Trask conceptualize their invention.
While Days of Future Past showcased the Sentinels in an updated look, the aforementioned set photos suggest that Avengers: Doomsday could portray a more comic-book accurate rendition of the villainous bots.
Despite the update, Marvel has yet to share an official word on the involvement of Sentinels in the upcoming Avengers sequel. Fans will be able to draw definitive conclusions for this theory when Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on May 1, 2026.
