Marvel Studios is making sure the X-Men receive a proper debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
What will the X-Men receive in Avengers: Doomsday?
According to trusted scooper Daniel Richtman, the mutant superhero team will be sporting “more comic-accurate” costumes in Avengers: Doomsday. 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise wasn’t known for its comic book accuracy when it came to the team’s superhero costumes, opting for black leather over yellow spandex. It wasn’t until Marvel Studios regained the rights to the X-Men that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine finally received a comic-accurate suit, which appeared in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine.
The MCU crossover movie is so far confirmed to feature X-Men alums Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Rebecca Romijn, Kelsey Grammer, Alan Cumming, and James Marsden, who are expected to be playing variants of the characters they played in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise: Professor X, Magneto, Mystique, Beast, Nightcrawler, and Cyclops, respectively. Channing Tatum will also be back as Gambit from Deadpool & Wolverine.
As for X-Men alums who have officially confirmed their exclusion from Doomsday, Shawn Ashmore and Halle Berry separately shared that they had not been asked to return as Iceman and Storm, respectively, for the MCU movie.
Additionally, Richtman reports that the X-Men will return for Avengers: Secret Wars, the direct follow-up to 2026’s Doomsday. Both movies will be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, a.k.a. the Russo Brothers, who will be working from screenplays written by Stephen McFeely. All three previously collaborated on the MCU movies Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.

The X-Men returning for Secret Wars makes sense, considering that Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Captain America) recently stated that Doomsday will end on a cliffhanger, teasing that the MCU movie “really builds and sets us up for a way for the continuation of the Marvel saga, which is really exciting.”
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027.
