Daredevil Showrunner Says Born Again Is More Violent Than Netflix Show, Kingpin Actor Agrees

Marvel Studios has seemingly listened to fans who bemoaned the lack of violence in series like Moon Knight. Dario Scardapane, the showrunner of Daredevil: Born Again following its creative reset, recently shared that the upcoming Disney+ continuation has some scenes that are way more violent than anything ever shown in the Netflix version.

Daredevil: Born Again violence is beyond anything the Netflix show ever did

Netflix’s Daredevil series was praised upon its release back in 2015 for being the darkest entry yet in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Critics and fans loved the violence and fight sequences, including the oft-discussed one-shot hallway brawl.

When Marvel Studios first announced that they would be making a new Daredevil series for Disney+, with Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio back in their fan-favorite roles of Daredevil and Kingpin, respectively, fans were worried that the violence might be dumbed down since it was being made for Disney.

However, those worries were seemingly for nothing, as Scardapane revealed to Empire that Born Again goes harder with violence than the Netflix series ever did. “The level of violence is way up there for a Marvel/Disney show,” he teased. “I don’t think there’s anything else even in the ballpark. There’s a moment in this that is just absolutely batshit, and way past anything Netflix ever did.”

While that statement may be hard to believe, D’Onofrio echoed Scardapane’s violent remarks, stating, “There’s a world in which you might think that if that show kept running, we’d be in this place eventually, or something like it. But we’ve gone further in the darkness, the action, the nastiness.”

While plot details remain largely under wraps for Born Again, the first trailer confirmed that the continuation would adapt the “Mayor Fisk” storyline from the comics, a storyline that was first teased in the Echo series finale. The Disney+ series will also feature the long-awaited MCU returns of Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher, as well as Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Fisk and Wilson Bethel as Benjamin Poindexter/Bullseye.

Daredevil: Born Again premieres on Disney+ on March 4, as part of Phase 5 of the MCU.
