Henry Cavill Teases New Sides of Geralt in The Witcher Season 2

In December, fans will finally see the sophomore season for The Witcher. The series debuted in 2019, and it was a massive success for Netflix, becoming one of the most beloved for watchers, even though it was a challenge for many due to complex storylines. Season 2 bodes to be less intricate and to bring some freshness. Not only will there be a plethora of new faces joining the Continent, but some old acquaintances will show different and unseen sides of them in more linear stories. And that goes for Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia in particular.

“He’s got this deep down White Knight Syndrome, even though every time he acts upon it, it gets him into some serious trouble — and puts him and everyone else in a worse position than initially intended,” Cavill said while talking with EW. “But with Ciri, she’s definitely bringing out the paternal side of Geralt. While he hasn’t necessarily been someone who craved children, he does take quite naturally to being a protector.”

The freshman season featured a pretty grumpy Geralt, focusing mainly on his extraordinary combat skills and lust. But there is more than that to the white-haired witcher. The books have more space to explain better what motivates him to fight for the poor and weak, and Cavill implied that he did some character digging in the upcoming eight-episode season.

“I really wanted to avoid him being too one tunnel,” he added. “Even though he may be dark and mysterious at times, I wanted him to come across as this incredible character that [Andrzej Sapkowski] wrote. Those are things that I really pushed for and tried very hard to get into the show.”

The sophomore season of The Witcher will debut on Netflix on Dec. 17.
