Barry Keoghan Drops Out of FX’s Y: The Last Man

FX’s translation of Vertigo’s Y: The Last Man is looking for a new actor to play the series’ title character. Via Collider, Barry Keoghan has just vacated his role as Yorick Brown on the show.

Keoghan first joined the adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra’s acclaimed comic book series in 2018. In the comic, Yorick was the sole human male survivor of a mysterious event that wiped out all living mammals possessing a Y chromosome. The series followed him as he traversed this new post-apocalyptic world alongside his Capuchin monkey, Ampersand. Previously, Keoghan received praise for his role in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk.

Collider’s report doesn’t provide a reason for Keoghan’s departure. However, the series has had a few setbacks before. Original showrunners Aida Mashaki Croal and Michael Green left over creative differences. Eliza Clark later stepped in to guide the series to fruition. Despite this shakeup, Vaughan took to Instagram last summer to do some damage control and insist that the show was “in excellent hands.”

In the meantime, Y’s producers are soldiering on. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Clark has begun offering the part to various young actors. Unfortunately, Keoghan already filmed scenes for the series, which means the supporting cast will be needed for reshoots. Because of this, it also seems likely that the show won’t be premiering this year as originally intended.
