Star Wars Writer Says The Rise of Skywalker Will Answer Key Questions

The Star Wars world is still full of pending questions. Luckily for us, at least two of them will find an answer as soon as The Rise of Skywalker soars into theaters. Speaking with EmpireStar Wars writer Chris Terrio revealed that the last installment in the new trilogy will finally reveal who Rey is.

“[That is a question] that people not only wonder about quite literally, but wonder about in the spiritual sense,” Terrio said. “How can Rey become the spiritual heir to the Jedi? We kept coming back to ‘Who is Rey?’, and how can we give the most satisfying answer to that not only factually – because obviously people are interested in whether there’s more to be learned of Rey’s story – but more importantly who is she as a character?”

Fans have been divided over whether or not Rey feels too perfect as a protagonist. There was also some grumbling when The Last Jedi revealed her parents were nobody special. It sounds like the final film will at least address these issues in some way.

Then Terrio addressed probably the question every Star Wars fan is wondering since the original trilogy.

“The second one is, ‘How strong is the Force?’ It sounds a little simple, but actually when you get down to it, that is a sort of Zen Koan that we would really meditate on – not literally in yoga poses or anything, but like we would discuss, ‘What is the Force and how strong is the Force?’ Those two things were really important,” Terrio added.

Over the years, we saw the Force growing stronger and stronger. In the original trilogy, it could enhance someone’s senses, and lift an X-wing out of the swamp. After that, though, characters who have used the Force started doing some pretty incredible things. Think about Galen Marek, who pulled a Star Destroyer out of the sky. Or Luke Skywalker astrally projecting himself across the galaxy. Our guess is that the Force is probably limitless in the things that it can do, but most of it depends on the power of the character who uses it.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will hit theaters on December 20. How strong is the Force really, do you think? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
