Cassady McClincy Cast in Key Walking Dead Role

AMC’s The Walking Dead has cast Cassady McClincy in a key role lifted directly from the comics, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Potential spoilers ahead!

The actress, who starred in such movies as Love, Simon and Hulu’s Castle Rock, will play Lydia, who, in the comics, has a Romeo and Juliette-esque romance with Carl amidst a clash between Rick’s clan and a new group of wanderers called the Whisperers. We already know the latter group will appear in season nine, headed by new series regular Samantha Morton (Minority Report) as their leader Alpha, but how Lydia plays into the central conflict now that Carl has bit the dust remains to be seen.

Based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics, The Walking Dead tells the story of the months and years that follow after a zombie apocalypse and follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, who travel in search of a safe and secure home. The ninth season will jump forward in time following the events of the group’s All Out War with Negan and his Saviors and will highlight a changing infrastructure in the physical world as Rick works to build the more peaceful utopia that his late son, Carl, envisioned.

The series stars Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Lennie James, Alanna Masterson, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Seth Gilliam, Ross Marquand, Austin Amelio, Tom Payne, Xander Berkeley, Khary Payton, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Newcomers to the series include Lauren Ridloff as comic book character Connie, with Eleanor Matsuura as Yumiko from the comic series, and Fantastic Beasts star Dan Fogler in an undisclosed role.

The Walking Dead will premiere on October 7 on AMC.
