Andrew Garfield Talks Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Casting

Andrew Garfield on Tom Holland playing Spider-Man

The world is abuzz about Spider-Man. Following the announcement that Sony and Marvel Studios had reached a deal to share the character and bring him into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans can’t get enough updates about the new wall crawler.

Among those that are eager to see where the character goes? None other than former Spider-Man himself, Andrew Garfield. Speaking with ET, Garfield expressed excitement not only for Tom Holland’s casting but also just getting to see the character on the big screen solely as a fan.

“It feels lovely, especially because Tom Holland is a really, really great actor. He was in this movie The Impossible and he was just this incredibly powerful, sensitive, just wonderful young actor, and [he’s] a dancer, so his body’s the right [form]…I’m just really excited to just be a fan again as opposed to bearing the weight of it.”

Holland continues to prepare for his turn as the friendly neighborhood menace, posting some new videos on Instagram that appear to be him testing out his new-found spider-powers. Check them out below!

The 19-year-old English actor will make his debut as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, which is set to debut in theaters May 6, 2016. Following that, he will debut in his own solo film, which will be in theaters on July 28, 2017, where he will be joined by Marisa Tomei as Aunt May. Vacation writers and directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein will pen the script for the film, which has director Jon Watts behind the camera.
