Krysten Ritter Talks Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones, Getting Hooked on the Comics

Just last week, Marvel Entertainment officially confirmed the casting of Krysten Ritter in the title role for “Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones,” and now the actress has opened up about the role, saying she’s “devouring” the source material and can’t wait to see the series.

“I wasn’t (a fan of comics), but I am now reading the Jessica Jones comics and devouring them,” Ritter told Cosmopolitan. “And [I’m] hooked. I don’t think I’ve been so hooked on something since Serial. So now I feel that way about the Jessica Jones series. I can’t wait. I mean, as soon as we’re done today, that’s what I am going to be doing. I’m really excited about Jessica Jones. It’s so f***ing cool. It’s so cool. I can’t wait to watch it.”

Ritter went on to talk about working with showrunner Melissa Rosenberg on the series:

“F**k yeah. My favorite. It’s crazy, because I remember, like, six years ago, I was like, ‘I just want to work with female directors and female showrunners; there’s none.’ And I feel like, since then, I’ve exclusively worked with women, which I love. I worked with Amy Heckerling, Kat [Coiro], Jessica Goldberg, Leslye Headland, Nahnatchka Khan, the creator of Don’t Trust the B–, who is my idol and bar for anything funny. And now Melissa! It’s a dream come true.”

Set to premiere in 2015 on Netflix after “Marvel’s Daredevil” debuts, the series is described as follows: “After a tragic ending to her short-lived Super Hero stint, Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.”
