Inde Navarrette’s X-Men Bet Shows Why the Old Hollywood Star Playbook Is Dead

After months of rumors, the X-Men movie cast has officially been revealed. It features one of the biggest rising stars in Hollywood in Inde Navarrette.

The Obsession star exploded into superstardom following her role in the horror movie. As she is now one of the most in-demand stars in the acting world, though, she chose to commit to the MCU and X-Men. A new report suggested that Navarrette surprisingly turned down a role in Michael Mann’s Heat 2 to commit to the X-Men movie, a huge move for any star to make, let alone a rising one like Navarrette.

While Navarrette’s decision to turn down a more “prestige” movie might be seen as confusing to some, it’s actually one that shows just where Hollywood is at now. Furthermore, for Navarrette specifically, it’s one of the best bets she can make as she continues to grow into a megastar.

Inde Navarrette is betting on the MCU, and it’s the right move

On paper, the move to turn down an acclaimed actor like Michael Mann to star in the MCU seems like a wild one. For years now, many have believed Marvel Studios‘ cinematic universe was on the decline. Following 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, many of Marvel’s projects have either underperformed, or simply not been viewed as up to the standard of the pre-Endgame MCU.

On the flip side, Navarrette seems ready to make the leap into some serious roles. Her star turn in Obsession has set her up as one of the new “it” actors in Hollywood. Alongside the role in Heat 2, Navarrette also reportedly turned down a huge payday for a role in a horror project from director Matthias Hoene. With all the buzz Obsession is generating, Navarrette could really have the pick of her roles, so why choose the MCU?

While not just specific to Navarrette, her choice to pick the MCU is indicative of the era of Hollywood we’re in. The old formula of a Hollywood actor having a star turn and then immediately going the “prestige” movie route is no longer a thing, especially if an actor’s goal is to gain even more exposure. For many reasons, surprisingly, the MCU makes the most sense. Not only would a role in a project like X-Men give Navarrette much more exposure worldwide, but also access to a much larger audience.

While it’s not a guarantee that X-Men is well-received or deemed a good movie, it’s likely Marvel will be taking every precaution to make sure it is. On top of that, the movie is set to be the major flagship of the MCU’s new era post-Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Getting involved in a movie like that, with a ton of future opportunities for roles and options, is an appealing one to any actor.

Many will say that Navarrette has tied herself to the MCU long-term and thus ruined any chances of appearing in future movies. However, the Heat 2 report likely means that the actress simply couldn’t film both X-Men and Heat 2 at the same time. It’s unlikely we never see her in anything besides Marvel movies going forward, and now she has the benefit of growing her star power, brand, and acting chops all in one, which makes the MCU the safest bet of them all.
