Sebastian Stan’s reported casting as Harvey Dent in The Batman: Part II was a misquote, but fans are still theorizing. The confusion began after a French outlet published a statement that appeared to reveal his secret role.
Le Journal du Dimanche initially reported that Stan said, “I play Harvey Dent,” while discussing Matt Reeves’ sequel. The claim quickly spread online and prompted fans to connect the actor with Gotham’s future Two-Face.
However, The Wrap reported that two insiders said Stan was misquoted. The French publication has since corrected its online interview, removing the alleged confirmation. That clarification did little to stop the fan theories.
On X, @FilmiwayMedia wrote, “Expected from…Two-Faced.” @SkwishoBat asked, “So chances of him playing Dent are… half-half?”
Another user, @blurritolive wrote, “Why do I feel like a year or so from now we will find out he was in it as Harvey Dent.”
Meanwhile, @kroshkaruiya commented, “He’s just being two-faced,” and @MishimaJulian added, “That’s something two-face would say.”
The corrected interview gives a different account of what Stan actually said. While discussing Avengers: Doomsday, he explained that the production used scattered scenes instead of a complete script. He was then asked about The Batman: Part II and remained tight-lipped about the project.
His updated statement reads, “Honestly, I have absolutely no idea. Because we didn’t have a script. We were just shooting scattered scenes. It’s a different way of working, continuous and constantly evolving. The producers didn’t want us to read it in its entirety, to avoid journalists asking us questions. I’ve been following that rule for fifteen years now; I’m used to it. I also can’t say anything about Matt Reeves’ The Batman: Part II.”
There is no Harvey Dent confirmation in the corrected version.
What we know about The Batman Part II so far
Matt Reeves is directing the sequel, with Robert Pattinson returning as Bruce Wayne. Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Charles Dance, and Brian Tyree Henry are among the confirmed additions.
The film is currently in production, while its story details remain closely guarded. Reeves has said the sequel will focus more on Bruce Wayne as a person.
Warner Bros. has also moved the theatrical release to February 18, 2028. Reeves shared camera-test footage featuring Pattinson’s return as Batman.
The film was initially planned to arrive on October 1, 2027, but was later delayed. If the new release date stays on track, the sequel will arrive almost six years after the original, which debuted in March 2022.
