Spider-Man fans may finally have a reason to be hopeful about one of Marvel‘s most requested matchups. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has shared a brief but promising update about the possibility of Spider-Man facing Kingpin in the MCU.
Feige discussed this during an appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast. The Marvel president was asked whether Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin could eventually share the screen. Reacting to the possibility of their showdown, he said, “Always have hope.” However, he didn’t confirm that a crossover is currently in development.
Additionally, Feige disagreed with the idea that the rights to Kingpin are too difficult for the Spider-Man movie. He said that there are indeed some problems that need to be sorted out, but nothing serious.
The idea of a crossover drew attention due to the increased involvement of Kingpin in Marvel’s street-level stories via Echo and Daredevil: Born Again. Wilson Fisk is among the most famous enemies of Spider-Man in Marvel Comics. Yet, the two characters have not met yet in any live-action film of the MCU.
Another reason for increasing interest in Kingpin’s casting as Spider-Man’s foe is the return of Peter Parker to the more realistic world in New York in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Kevin Feige’s latest comments could reshape Spider-Man’s future villains
There’s no clarity about Spider-Man’s future in the MCU after Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Marvel has not confirmed whether Tom Holland will be seen in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars, and a fifth solo Spider-Man movie has not been announced. That leaves plenty of room for Marvel to decide where Peter Parker’s story goes next.
In recent months, several rumors have linked villains like Mister Negative to Spider-Man‘s next adventure. However, no confirmation has yet been made by Marvel concerning these rumors. Marvel may decide to go in the direction pointed out by Feige. In that case, Kingpin may become Spider-Man’s next adversary.
It may even impact Daredevil: Born Again since Kingpin has played a critical role as an antagonist throughout the show.
