The latest release date update for James Bond 26 is concerning for fans, as the wait for the new 007 to hit the big screen grows longer.
What is the latest James Bond release date update?
According to The Telegraph, Amazon MGM Studios is taking its time with James Bond, with the rumored release date at least two to three years away.
“What we’ll keep hearing until the next one comes out—2028 at the very earliest, but more likely to be 2029 or beyond—is that they’re waiting to get it just right,” The Telegraph says. The outlet also states that Steven Knight’s script is “nowhere near ready” at the moment.
While the release date window is unconfirmed, the idea that Amazon does not want to rush 007 makes sense, given that the studio paid $8.5 billion to acquire MGM, which previously held distribution rights to James Bond.
James Bond 26 is also the first 007 movie to be under Amazon’s full control. In February 2025, Amazon paid producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson for the creative rights to the franchise’s future.
Shortly after the Broccoli family agreed to cede control, Amazon hired Amy Pascal and David Heyman to produce James Bond 26. Pascal previously oversaw several Bond films, including Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, and Skyfall. Meanwhile, Heyman has significant experience with franchises, having been a producer on the Harry Potter movies.
Denis Villeneuve will direct the next James Bond movie. Before jumping to Bond, Villeneuve is currently finishing up post-production work on Dune: Part Three, which hits theaters on December 18, 2026. Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight will pen the Bond script.
As for who will play Bond, that remains a mystery. Rumored actors in contention for the role include Jacob Elordi, Tom Holland, Callum Turner, and Harris Dickinson. If the movie wants a 2028 release, then it will likely have to announce the next 007 by the end of 2026.
