Avengers: Doomsday is tracking to be one of the most expensive movies ever. A report claims that Avengers: Doomsday’s budget and marketing costs could set a Marvel Studios record.
What is the Avengers: Doomsday budget and marketing cost?
On a recent episode of The John Campea Show Podcast, Campea reported that Avengers: Doomsday’s budget is around $400 million, making it one of the biggest in Marvel history. However, Marvel also plans to give Doomsday a record-breaking marketing campaign.
“You guys will remember that Avengers: Endgame was the first movie ever to spend $200 million on a marketing campaign, which was unheard of at the time,” Campea said. “I’ve heard their marketing budget for Doomsday is just a little north of $300 million.”
Marvel has ventured into the $400 million budget range for movies like Deadpool & Wolverine and Avengers: Endgame. However, the $300 million spent on marketing would be a new high.
With a $400 million budget and $300 million on marketing, Avengers: Doomsday would need to exceed $1 billion to make its money back.
“If Doomsday is about a $400 million budget and if they are spending about $300 million on marketing, Doomsday will be the first film in history that will need to join the billion dollar club in order to break even,” Campea added. “It’ll be the first movie in history that has to make a billion dollars just to break even. It’s never happened before. It’s going to be really crazy but they believe in it, I guess.”
Avengers: Doomsday will try to match the box-office totals of its two predecessors. Avengers: Endgame is the second-highest-grossing movie ever at $2.7 billion. Meanwhile, Avengers: Infinity War is not far behind at just over $2 billion.
Directed by the Russo Brothers, Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to open on December 18, 2027.
