A new X-Men update suggests that we already know who some of the major villains set to appear in the group’s highly anticipated MCU debut will be.
What is the latest X-Men update?
According to a new report from social media insider James Mack, the idea for the “mutant core” for the MCU is to feature Mister Sinister as the “big villain” of the group. Mack also mentions that Sinister will likely be introduced early on in the first X-Men movie, as will MOJO, another longtime X-Men villain.
In a subsequent reply to a question, Mack noted that there won’t be “mutant hatred” featured in the movie, but instead will focus on governments trying to crack down on their powers. Mack mentioned that “any living being with powers outside the Avengers” will be viewed as a threat in the X-Men films, which will set the stage for the potential backlash the characters often face.
As of now, little is known about the upcoming X-Men movie. Jake Schreier, who directed 2025’s Thunderbolts*, will be behind the camera for the much anticipated movie. While members of the X-Men will appear in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, it’s unclear who will take over the mantle for the group in the future as no official casting has been confirmed.
Marvel Studios is releasing Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, 2026. After that comes the sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, on December 17, 2027. Following Secret Wars, the MCU is then expected to begin its Mutant Saga, which will be a new series of stories revolving around the X-Men.
