Avengers: Secret Wars may star only one of the Fox X-Men characters.
Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday is currently in post-production. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, also known as the Russo Brothers, the movie will be released in United States theaters later this year. Avengers: Secret Wars then follows in 2027.
It’s known that a number of the Fox X-Men characters will appear in Avengers: Doomsday, including Kelsey Grammer’s Hank McCoy/Beast, Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier/Professor X, Ian McKellen’s Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto, Alan Cumming’s Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn’s Raven Darkhölme/Mystique, and James Marsden’s Scott Summers/Cyclops. How big a role they’ll have and which ones will be returning for Avengers: Secret Wars, however, has been kept secret by Marvel.
Which X-Men character may survive Avengers: Doomsday and be in Secret Wars?
Scooper James Mack was asked if any of the X-Men characters will survive the events of Avengers: Doomsday and make it onto the life raft. Mack then replied with a picture of Marsden’s Cyclops, implying that he’ll be returning for Avengers: Secret Wars. The other aforementioned X-Men characters’ future, however, is looking pretty grim.
This is just a rumor at this time and should be treated as such, as the cast for Secret Wars has not been announced.
In the Secret Wars comic by Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribić, the life raft is a special ship that is designed to withstand the collision of universes. Many notable Marvel characters make it on board the life raft when the Earth-616 and Earth-1610 incursion happens; however, the majority of the ship gets lost for years, which allows Doctor Doom to create Battleworld.
How closely the Secret Wars movie adapts the comic series remains to be seen. Avengers: Doomsday arrives on December 18, 2026, as part of Phase 6 of the MCU. Avengers: Secret Wars is dated for December 17, 2027.
