Marvel Studios‘ upcoming Black Panther 3 movie has received a major update about its potential title and filming start date. This comes ahead of Letitia Wright’s return as Shuri/Black Panther in Avengers: Doomsday, which will debut on December 18, 2026.
What’s the new update for Black Panther 3?
According to a new listing posted by the Film & Television Industry Alliance, Marvel Studios has reportedly decided to title Black Panther 3 as Black Panther: Shadows of Wakanda. The listing’s project summary revealed that the story might “explore Wakanda’s vulnerability after T’Challa’s death, with Shuri stepping up as both warrior and leader.” In addition to the potential title, the listing also suggested that production will possibly begin on June 15, 2026, in London, England.
Last December, acclaimed filmmaker Ryan Coogler confirmed that he’s already deep into the development of the next Black Panther movie. Besides Wright’s Shuri, Academy Award winner Denzel Washington might also make his MCU debut in Black Panther 3 after previously teasing that Coogler was writing a part for him in the film. Recent casting rumors also suggested that Snowfall star Damson Idris has been tapped to become the next Black Panther. Even though the studio hasn’t confirmed anything yet, Idris was previously spotted accompanying Black Panther vet Angela Bassett at the Vogue World: Hollywood event, where the acclaimed actress was dressed as Queen Ramonda.
Besides Wright, Wakanda Forever cast members Winston Duke as M’Baku and Tenoch Mejia Huerta as Namor are also set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday. The movie is being directed by Avengers: Endgame filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo from a screenplay written by Stephen McFeely. The ensemble cast will include MCU stars Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Paul Rudd, Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, Kelsey Grammer, Lewis Pullman, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, Simu Liu, and Hannah John-Kamen, with Robert Downey Jr. returning as Doctor Doom.
