On her January 7 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Sophie Turner talked about her grandfather, Robert Jesse Cotton, and how he shaped her career. “He’s my hero. My total hero,” she said, sharing that she had inherited his wedding ring just before her X-Men audition.
Turner wore it during the screen test and credits it with giving her the confidence to land the role of Jean Grey. She smiled and pointed to the sky, saying, “And I give it up to Robert Jesse Cotton.” Fallon joined the tribute, assuring her that her grandfather was surely watching over her. “He loves you. Yeah, he’s watching down. He’s taking care of you,“ the host said on the show.
Sophie Turner will turn 30 on February 21 and is also celebrating 15 years since Game of Thrones first made her a household name. On the career front, she’s gearing up to star in the new Prime Video series Steal. Turner shared in an appearance on CBS Mornings that entering her 30s has been all about self-growth and therapy, helping her step into this new chapter with confidence and a fresh outlook.
“I’m so looking forward to it. In the run-up to my 30th, I’ve been really doing a lot of self-work, because I want to enter this new chapter of my life really confident in myself. I want to know myself as well as I can,” Turner said.
