The first trailer for second DCU movie Supergirl is out and packed full of action and Easter eggs. One of the more prominent characters in the trailer is played by Eve Ridley of 3 Body Problem. However, few are familiar with Ruthye Marye Knoll, who is a relatively recent introduction to the reality of DC Comics.

The plot of the 2026 Supergirl movie is set to center around Kara Zor-El. The cousin of Superman heads into deep space to celebrate her birthday on an alien world. She does this because she can only get drunk on worlds with a red sun. However, fate will drag the Last Daughter of Krypton into a search for revenge and justice against Krem of the Yellow Hills. The character of Ruthye Marye Knoll lies at the heart of this quest, recruiting the Girl of Steel as her champion.
Ruthye Marye Knoll in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
This synopsis of the DCU film makes its source material clear. The base plot and the characters of Ruthye Marye Knoll and Krem of the Yellow Hills are taken directly from the comic Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. (Indeed, the movie was originally going to use that title.)

In the original comic, Ruthye Marye Knoll is a young girl on a relatively primitive planet. When her father is killed by Krem of the Yellow Hills, she embarks to find a warrior to help avenge his murder. However, when the mercenary she tries to hire elects to rob her instead, Supergirl intervenes.
Kara manages to make short work of the thief, despite being drunk and celebrating her birthday. This act makes Ruthye fixate on Kara Zor-El being the hero she needs, despite her reluctance to get involved. From what the trailer shows, it appears the movie will be staying true to the original story and characters of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Supergirl arrives in movie theaters on June 26, 2026.
