Man of Tomorrow Has a Story That Is ‘Separate’ From Peacemaker Season 2

Man of Tomorrow and Peacemaker Season 2 may not be as connected as some fans think.

The second chapter of DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television’s Peacemaker recently concluded, as the season finale was released on HBO Max earlier this month. The show sees John Cena reprise his role as Christopher Smith, while the cast also includes Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase/Vigilante, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, and Steve Agee as John Economos.

James Gunn is now working on a follow-up to his Superman movie, titled Man of Tomorrow, which will arrive in theaters in 2027. David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult will reprise their respective DCU roles as Clark Kent and Lex Luthor in the film, while it’s also been heavily speculated (though not officially confirmed) that Brainiac will be the main antagonist.

What did James Gunn say about Man of Tomorrow?

Following the announcement of Man of Tomorrow, Gunn referred to Peacemaker Season 2 as a “prequel” to the forthcoming Superman movie. Given that Peacemaker Season 2 ends with some set-up for future projects — namely, the emergence of Salvation and Checkmate — many assumed that Man of Tomorrow would play into these story beats.

Speaking to Go Read Some Comics with Jenna, Gunn didn’t provide any specific plot details about Man of Tomorrow; he did, however, say that, while it will be connected to Peacemaker Season 2’s ending, it will also be its own thing, meaning that it’s not guaranteed that everything that happened in the Peacemaker finale will be addressed in the new Superman movie.

“I don’t know what people have guessed, but Man of Tomorrow is really — it’s very, very connected to Peacemaker — but it’s also its own thing,” Gunn commented. “I mean, it has its own story that’s separate from this.”

Man of Tomorrow will be released on July 9, 2027, from Warner Bros. Pictures.
