Spider-Man 5 Could Feature MCU Villain Showdown Fans Have Been Waiting For

A new Spider-Man rumor has seemingly teased Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios’ potential plans for the future of a fan-favorite villain. So far, the main antagonist for Spider-Man: Brand New Day hasn’t been revealed yet, but it has already been confirmed that Michael Mando will be reprising his role as Mac Gargan/Scorpion from 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. The movie is led by MCU vet Tom Holland as he reprises his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Emmy winner Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are also expected to return for the sequel. They will be joined by recently announced cast members Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) and Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear), with Jon Bernthal (Daredevil: Born Again) as Frank Castle/Punisher. In addition, Avengers vet Mark Ruffalo is being rumored to reprise his iconic role as Bruce Banner/Hulk in the fourth installment.

What MCU villain could star in Spider-Man 5?

Following Vincent D’Onofrio’s official debut into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, Marvel fans have been vocal about their desire to see Tom Holland’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man faced off against the popular villain. Even though it has been clear that Kingpin won’t be part of Brand New Day’s cast, it seems like there’s a chance that the dream showdown may still take place in the potential Spider-Man 5.

According to The Cosmic Circus’ Alex Perez, the long-awaited fight between Spider-Man and Kingpin is reportedly still part of the studios’ plans, revealing that the villain could possibly have a surprise appearance during Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s mid-credits or post credit sequence.

“The plan with Kingpin is to have him face off against Spider-Man, which hasn’t changed. And for Brand New Day, It’s possible we could see a mid-credit or post-credit scene that would tease an upcoming bout against them,” Perez shared.

This rumor comes after the Daredevil: Born Again star explained why its complicated for Kingpin to appear in movies since Sony Pictures owns the character’s film rights, while Marvel Studios could only use him for TV shows.

“It’s a very hard thing to do for Marvel to use my character. It’s a very hard thing to do because of ownership and stuff,” D’Onofrio said in a previous interview. “Right now, I’m only usable for television series, different kinds of series, whatever it is, but not even a one-off Fisk movie or anything like that. It’s all caught up in rights and stuff.”
