Following the official Marvel Cinematic Universe debut of fan-favorite villain Mephisto, it seems like Marvel Studios is ready to embrace more of the MCU’s supernatural side. That’s why, after more than two years since its premiere, Werewolf by Night 2 has finally received a promising update regarding the Disney+ special’s future.
What is the new update for Werewolf by Night 2?
According to a new report, Marvel Studios is reportedly developing multiple projects that will lead into its planned Midnight Sons movie. One of these projects is said to be Werewolf by Night 2, which would feature the MCU return of Gael García Bernal’s Jack Russell, Laura Donnelly’s Elsa Bloodstone, and Man-Thing. The 2022 TV special remains one of Marvel Studios’ highest-rated Disney+ offerings, with a Tomatometer score of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.
A previous report suggested that the long-rumored Midnight Sons movie has reportedly already tapped a writer to pen the script for the live-action adaptation. Further details about its potential plot are still being kept under wraps, but a recent rumor claimed that the studio might be planning to make Ghost Rider the titular team’s leader. The character was originally played by Oscar-winning actor Nicolas Cage in Sony Pictures’ live-action Ghost Rider movies. Recently, a Samurai variant of the character appeared in the series finale of the Disney+ animated series What If…? for a brief non-speaking appearance.
The original comic book series centered around a team of supernatural heroes consisting of Ghost Rider, Blade, Moon Knight, Elsa Bloodstone, Doctor Strange, and more. Since the Marvel Cinematic Universe started its Multiversal saga, Marvel Studios has begun exploring the horror genre with the Disney+ release of Moon Knight, Werewolf By Night, and Agatha All Along. However, the studio hasn’t really made any official announcements regarding their plans on what to expect from the MCU’s supernatural side.
