A legendary actor who has appeared throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Ant-Man franchise is retiring from the world of acting.
What Ant-Man star is retiring?
In a recent statement during an appearance at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, acting legend Michael Douglas said he intends to stay retired and has no intentions of returning to acting after stopping in 2022.
“I have not worked since 2022 purposefully because I realized I had to stop,” Douglas said. “I had been working pretty hard for almost 60 years, and I did not want to be one of those people who dropped dead on the set. I have no real intentions of going back. I say I’m not retired because if something special came up, I’d go back, but otherwise, no.”
Should Douglas’ statement be true, one of his final roles on screen will have come in Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which was released in 2023. Douglas’s final role will come in Looking Through Water, currently in post-production, but it’s unclear when the film will officially release.
Douglas played the role of Hank Pym throughout the MCU beginning in 2015, when he starred in the first Ant-Man. Since then, he’s appeared in three Marvel projects, including every Ant-Man film, and 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, where he appeared in a brief scene toward the end of the film.
Of course, Douglas is known for his legendary roles outside of the MCU as well. He produced the 1975 hit One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and also starred in films like Wall Street, The China Syndrome, Romancing the Stone, Fatal Attraction, Basic Instinct, Falling Down, The Game, and more.
