Superman: DCU Movie Has Less Humor After Mixed Test Screening – Report

While much of the upcoming DC Studios movie Superman remains unknown, a new report suggests that the film is set to feature less humor following a less-than-stellar test screening.

What are the reactions to Superman’s test screening?

According to a new report from World of Reel, tensions are high regarding the upcoming DCU movie. The report mentions that sources close to production of the film say that the movie recently received a mixed reception at a test screening, which has caused a “cascade of changes. The report mentions that the original cut of Superman leaned heavier on humor, and as a result of the test screening, several comedic beats were trimmed.

World of Reel’s report also notes that one of the film’s editors was removed “mid-process,” leading to a reworking of the film’s structure. This also coincided with a “slight shift” in how the story is being presented, although it doesn’t sound like any major changes were made.

“Superman, DC Studios’ first feature film to hit the big screen, is set to soar into theaters worldwide this summer from Warner Bros. Pictures,” the official synopsis reads. “In his signature style, James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.”

The cast of the movie also includes Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, María Gabriela de Faría, Wendell Pierce, Alan Tudyk, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Neva Howell, Beck Bennett, and more.

Superman will be released in United States theaters and IMAX on July 11, 2025, from Warner Bros. Pictures.
