Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ release date has been bumped up by two weeks.
Per Deadline, 20th Century Studios’ Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes has moved its release date from May 24, 2024, to May 10, 2024, meaning fans will now get to see it two weeks earlier than previously expected.
Had it kept its original release date, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes would’ve been competing against George Miller’s Furiosa and the animated Garfield movie starring Chris Pratt during its opening weekend.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will now go up against the Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black, Sony’s horror movie Horrorscope, and an untitled film from Angel Studios when it releases on May 10.
What is Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes about?
“Director Wes Ball breathes new life into the global, epic franchise set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign, in which apes are the dominant species living harmoniously and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows,” the official synopsis reads. “As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.”
Directed by Ball, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes stars Owen Teague, Freya Allan, Kevin Durand, Peter Macon, and William H. Macy.
Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, and Patrick Aison wrote the screenplay, while Ball, Joe Hartwick Jr., Jaffa, Silver, and Jason Reed serve as producers. Executive producers include Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is intended to launch a brand-new trilogy of Apes movies for Disney and 20th Century Studios. The film is set in the same universe as the previous Apes trilogy, which included 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes, 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes opens in United States theaters and IMAX on May 10, 2024.
