Superman: Legacy – Script for James Gunn’s DC Movie Is ‘Essentially’ Done

The script for James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy is “essentially” done.

Responding to a post on Threads, Gunn confirmed that the script to 2025’s Superman: Legacy is “99.9%” done. He added, “I’m always changing small things but it’s been essentially done since well before the strike.”

Regarding casting rumors for Andy Muschietti’s The Brave and the Bold, Gunn also debunked reports claiming Jensen Ackles may be in talks to play Batman/Bruce Wayne in the upcoming movie. “There’s no script yet,” Gunn said. “Ofc it’s false.”

What do we know about Superman: Legacy?

Superman: Legacy is being written and directed by Gunn. Releasing in 2025, the movie will see David Corenswet play the Man of Steel, while The Marvelous Ms. Maisel’s Rachel Brosnahan is playing Lois Lane.

The film will also star Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher.

Superman: Legacy will be set in the new DCU that Gunn and Safran are building at DC Studios. Prior to that, the DCEU, which began in 2013 with Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, will come to an end later this month with James Wan’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. An animated Creature Commandos series set in the new DCU is also releasing in 2024.

“[Superman: Legacy] tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas,” the synopsis reads. “He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”

Superman: Legacy releases in United States theaters on July 11, 2025. The Brave and the Bold, meanwhile, does not yet have a release date.
