Godzilla Minus One Unleashes Destruction in New Official Trailer

Toho has released the second official trailer for writer-director Takashi Yamazaki’s highly anticipated Kaiju film Godzilla Minus One.

The new Godzilla Minus One trailer sees the King of the Monsters lay waste to buildings, trains, battleships, and more upon rising from the sea. The trailer coincides with the film’s nationwide theatrical release in Japan. Godzilla Minus One celebrates the 69th anniversary of Toho’s original Godzilla movie (aka Gojira), which released on this day in 1954. The new film will make its way to the United States for early access fan event screenings starting Wednesday, November 29. Tickets for said screenings go on sale today, November 3.

What is Godzilla Minus One about?

Godzilla Minus One is the fifth big-screen entry in the franchise’s Reiwa era (as well as Toho’s 33rd Godzilla film, and the 37th Godzilla film overall). The movie takes place in Japan circa 1945-1947. “After the war, Japan has been reduced to zero,” an official synopsis reads. “Godzilla appears and plunges the country into a negative state. Against the most desperate situation in the history of Japan, how — and with whom — will Japan stand up to it?”

In addition to writing and directing, Yamazaki crafted Godzilla Minus One’s visual effects alongside Kiyoko Shibuya. The kaiju film stars Ryunosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe, Yuki Yamada, Munetaka Aoki, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Sakura Ando, and Kuranosuke Sasaki.

Of course, Godzilla Minus One is hardly the end of Godzilla’s big birthday bash. The Godzilla spin-off series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters — which is set within Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures’ MonsterVerse — is due to premiere on Apple TV+ on Friday, November 17. Then, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire — the next big-screen MonsterVerse entry — arrives in theaters worldwide on April 12, 2024.

Godzilla Minus One is now playing in Japan. The film arrives in the U.S. on November 29.
