New Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Spot Pays Homage to The Dark Knight

The Batman might be the first big superhero movie to hit theaters in 2022, but the next one is right around the corner. Paramount has released a brand new spot for Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which shows the blue speedster doing his best impression of the Dark Knight himself. You can check out the promo below.

Taking the name “Blue Justice,” Sonic appears to be basing his entire superhero persona on the Caped Crusader, right down to the character’s gravelly voice and brooding rooftop poses. The spot also features lots of new footage of Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik and his new partner in crime, Knuckles (voiced by Idris Elba). We even get to see more of the villain’s ultimate weapon: a giant robot inspired by his video game likeness.

Here’s the official synopsis from Paramount:

“The world’s favorite blue hedgehog is back for a next-level adventure in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when Dr. Robotnik returns, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a globe-trotting journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.”

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will open in theaters on April 8.
