No, method actor Jared Leto did not become a real vampire in preparation for Morbius. But he certainly looks skinny and near-death at the beginning of this newly revealed scene, and pumped up by the end. There’s some movie magic in the middle. Just revealed at Brazil’s CCXP, the three-and-a-half minute scene shows Michael Morbius going from human, to living vampire, and back again. Somewhere in the middle, he strikes the pose from previously released photos. And we get ample clouds of red mist as he leaps into lethal action. Leto’s transformation.

Sony also just dropped a new poster for the movie, featuring both sides of Michael Morbius. Hey, it worked for Venom. And they both have pointy teeth in oversized mouths too.
The official studio synopsis reads: “Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. While at first it seems to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed. Will good override evil – or will Morbius succumb to his mysterious new urges?”
Succumb, probably. At least for most of the movie. Where would the fun be otherwise?
Morbius opens in theaters Jan 28.
