Marvel’s Victoria Alonso Says There Are 31 MCU Projects in Development

As of right now, Marvel has announced its full 2022 slate along with a few releases confirmed (or at least expected) to hit screens in 2023. But the House of Ideas has things planned out far beyond that. And as longtime Marvel exec Victoria Alonso attested to in a recent interview with 221radio (via ComicBook.com), there are dozens of additional projects currently on the studio’s plate.

During the interview, Alonso was asked if Marvel was presently developing 35 movies and TV shows. And it turns out this estimate wasn’t far off from the actual number: “We are currently working on 31 projects,” replied Alonso. “Don’t add 4 more, please.”

That’s a lot of projects to juggle at once. Regardless, Alonso insists that Marvel remains committed to doing right by its many characters.

“It is a question about how are we handling multiple plates in the air at the same time,” added Alonso. “And the biggest thing is that sometimes the plates fall, and, you know, what are you going to do then? We want people to understand that the idea that we have, to tell these connected stories, it is important that the world knows that the characters we create, their stories have to do with how humans interact with each other.”

Aside from the studio’s live-action endeavors, something else to watch out for is Marvel’s continuing foray into animation, which officially began last month with the premiere of What If…? on Disney+. A few weeks before the series debuted, Alonso confirmed that Marvel was creating a “mini studio” exclusively for animated projects. Additionally, Onyx Equinox creator Sofia Alexander and Harley Quinn storyboard artist Liza Singer announced on social media that they were working with Marvel on different mystery projects.
