Marvel Studios Has Started Filming Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Three years ago, the first Black Panther movie became a culture phenomena. Now, the sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, has begun production in Atlanta. Via Variety, Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige shared the news that cameras are rolling for the film. Feige also addressed the bittersweet feeling of going forward without Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa. Last summer, Boseman passed away from colon cancer. Marvel subsequently decided against recasting his role for the sequel.

“It’s clearly very emotional without Chad,” said Feige. “But everyone is also very excited to bring the world of Wakanda back to the public and back to the fans. We’re going to do it in a way that would make Chad proud.”

Ryan Coogler is returning to write and direct the sequel. Additionally, Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke, Lupita Nyong’o, Florence Kasumba, and Angela Bassett are all likely to return. Marvel hasn’t officially confirmed any casting news save that the original stars will be back.

It’s also unclear who will be the villain in the sequel. Recent rumors about Namor, the Sub-Mariner remain unconfirmed by any of the major Hollywood outlets. Coogler is also developing a Marvel original series for Disney+ that will further expand on Wakanda and its place in the MCU.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will hit theaters on July 8, 2022.
