Scarlett Johansson Will Produce Disney’s New Tower of Terror Movie

In less than a month, Scarlett Johansson will headline Marvel’s Black Widow. Potentially, that could be her final appearance as Natasha Romanoff. However, that won’t be the end of her association with Disney. Collider is reporting that Johansson is attached to produce a feature film adaptation of Disney’s Tower of Terror.

The Tower of Terror is a theme park ride that opened at Walt Disney World in 1994. Additionally, the ride has a Twilight Zone branding, as it takes riders though a haunted hotel with a series of alarming drops. Disney previously adapted Tower of Terror as a TV movie Steve Guttenberg in 1997. Kirsten Dunst also had a starring role in that film.

It’s unclear if Johansson will also star in the new Tower of Terror film. Regardless, Disney has already lined up Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley to write the script.

While Disney’s California Adventure rebranded its Tower of Terror to become Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout!, the original Tower in Florida is still in operation. There are also duplicates of the ride in France’s Walt Disney Studios Park, and Tokyo DisneySea. Presumably the new film will be used to promote those attractions.

Disney has a mixed track record of turning its theme park attractions into films. The Pirates of the Caribbean films have found box office gold, but others have been less successful.  The House of Mouse will try again next month when Dwayne Johnson’s The Jungle Cruise hits theaters.
