Marvel’s Latest Black Widow Preview Celebrates National Superhero Day

By the time Black Widow arrives, it will have been over two years since a Marvel Studios movie hit theaters. However, the film’s simultaneous release on Disney+ Premier Access essentially guarantees that fans don’t have to worry about any more delays. With this, the studio can finally start rolling out its marketing campaign. And what better day to plug the MCU’s big-screen return than National Superhero Day? In honor of the “holiday,” Marvel has dropped a new teaser for Natasha Romanoff’s upcoming standalone adventure. Plus, the preview features narration by the film’s star, Scarlett Johannson.

The video recycles Natasha’s scenes from past Marvel movies, while Johannson recaps her character’s story so far. As footage plays from her appearances in Iron Man 2, The Avengers, and Captain America: Civil War, the actress reminds viewers what an invaluable member of the MCU she’s been for the last 10+ years. She may not have superpowers or a flying suit of armor, but she’s used her skill set as a former assassin to help her fellow heroes out of many sticky situations. More importantly, she’s been the glue that’s held the team together after all this time.

Now, after more than a decade as a supporting player, Black Widow finally gives Natasha the spotlight. Fans will finally get a more detailed look at her backstory and meet new characters along the way, including Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), and the mysterious Taskmaster. As Johannson notes, “you’ve been waiting for this.”

Black Widow hits theaters and Disney+ on July 9.
