Kamandi, Constantine, Blue Beetle, and The Losers Get Animated DC Showcase Shorts

Kamandi, Constantine, Blue Beetle, & The Losers Get Animated Shorts

Over a decade ago, Warner Bros. Animation launched the DC Showcase animated shorts to put the spotlight on some of DC’s lesser known characters. Now, Warner Bros. Animation is keeping that tradition alive in 2021 and 2022. And the first new DC Showcase out of the gate is Kamandi: The Last Boy on Earth!

Jack Kirby created Kamandi in 1972, and chronicled the teenage heroes exploits in a post-apocalyptic Earth. In this future, most of the surviving humans are savages. They are also ruled over by highly intelligent humanoid-like animals. Paul Giacoppo wrote the script for the Kamandi short, which was directed by Matt Peters. Rick Morales produced the short, which will be a bonus feature with the Justice Society: World War II animated movie Blu-ray. Giacoppo, Peters, and Morales will also collaborate on the three additional shorts.

Blue Beetle and The Losers will also get shorts in upcoming DC animated releases. However, it’s unclear which versions of these characters will be used. For example, there are multiple Blue Beetles to choose from. The original incarnation of The Losers was a World War II comic book. But there was also a modern take on the team created by r Andy Diggle and Jock.

Additionally, Constantine will get a longer animated short. The street magician/antihero has headlined his own animated movie before. However, this Constantine short will be longer than the other three. It will also be the “anchor” for a standalone DC Showcase compilation Blu-ray in 2022.
