Marvel Studios Hires Writers For Deadpool 3 With Ryan Reynolds

The merger of Disney and Fox brought the Deadpool franchise into Marvel Studios. But until now, plans for Deadpool 3 were nebulous at best. Regardless, Deadline is reporting that Marvel Studios has hired Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin to write the sequel. Additionally, Ryan Reynolds will reprise his role as Marvel’s Merc with a Mouth.

According to the report, Marvel Studios and Reynolds met with several writers to hear pitches for the new film. Both Reynolds and Marvel selected the Molyneux sisters to take the reigns. Previously, the Molyneyx sisters co-created The Great North for Fox. They are also writers and executive producers on Bob’s Burgers. Their next film scripts will be The People We Hate At The Wedding and The Sims movie.

Deadline notes that Deadpool 3 will likely retain the R-rating of its two predecessors. However, director David Leitch isn’t expected to return. One of the reasons for that is Leitch is already booked through the end of 2021. Additionally, Leitch was not involved with the pitch meetings for this sequel.

This will be the first major appearance of a X-Men-related character on the big screen for Marvel Studios. Others will surely follow.
