Sony Recruits J.C. Chandor to Direct Kraven the Hunter

One day after hiring Olivia Wilde to direct a possible Spider-Woman film, Sony has taken a big step toward getting their next big Marvel movie off the ground. And this one will feature one of Spider-Man’s deadliest enemies. Deadline brings word that the studio has drafted J.C. Chandor to helm Kraven the Hunter.

Most recently, Chandor co-wrote and directed Triple Frontier, which debuted on Netflix last year. His resume also includes films like A Most Violent Year, All is Lost, and Margin Call. The latter film also earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay in 2012.

Sony has been developing a Kraven the Hunter spinoff since before they launched their MCU-adjacent cinematic universe with the original Venom. Back in 2018, the studio hired The Equalizer’s Richard Wenk to pen the film, and it sounds like they still plan on using his draft. But since Chandor writes most of his films, he may very well take his own pass at the script. Wenk previously told Discussing Film that the movie would draw significant influence from the classic “Kraven’s Last Hunt” storyline. He also teased that Kraven would “come face to face” with Spider-Man. However, it’s not clear how that would work given the character’s role in the MCU.

Sony still hasn’t set a release date for Kraven the Hunter.

Do you think J.C. Chandor is a good fit to direct Kraven the Hunter? Who would you cast to play Kraven in the film? Let us know in the comment section below!
