Ready Player One Sequel by Ernest Cline to Debut in November

Ready Player One sequel by author Ernest Cline has been in the works for a while. Now, The Hollywood Reporter brings word that the new adventures of Wade Watts will debut on November 24th. Released in 2011, Ready Player One was a commercial hit in the publishing world. Cline’s book capitalized on a wave of nostalgia that also brought us Stranger Things, the new Ghostbusters movies, the Blade Runner sequel, and more recently, the return of The NeverEnding Story‘s Tami Stronach in a new fantasy movie.

Set in a dystopian future, Ready Player One is the story of Wade Watts, a teenager who lives together with his aunt. Wade is a ‘gunter’ (an egg hunter) who spends all his spare time researching pop-culture from the ’80s to aid in an online treasure hunt. The winner will get a fortune as well as control of The Oasis, the virtual reality world where much of humanity seeks solace.

In 2018, Warner Bros. adapted Cline’s book into a Steven Spielberg blockbuster. The recent news implies that there might be a possible sequel to the movie too. While Spielberg will likely step away from the project, co-star Olivia Cooke confessed that she — and most of the cast — have already signed to reprise their roles in a sequel.

Ready Player Two will hit stores on November 24th. The book from Ballantine Books is already available for pre-order.
