Sony’s Uncharted film project has had a number of directors come and go, including Shawn Levy and Dan Trachtenberg. But now, Sony may have finally landed the right person to help bring Nathan Drake to the big screen. Via The Hollywood Reporter, Bumblebee director Travis Knight is in talks to helm the Uncharted movie.
Tom Holland, who currently stars as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is set to play Nathan Drake in the film. He’ll play a younger version of Drake as he gets his start in treasure hunting. So far, Holland is the only announced cast member.
Sony has been itching to bring Uncharted to the big screen for some time. The video game series has sold more than 15 million copies, including the finale Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. However, its transition to the big screen hasn’t been easy.
The Uncharted project has some big talent working behind the scenes. Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, who previously wrote Marvel’s Iron Man film, are writing the film alongside Rafe Judkins. Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Alex Gartner are producing alongside Avi and Ari Arad.
Uncharted currently has a release date of December 18, 2020. However, there’s a possibility that it’ll see a delay. Sony has yet to comment on the story, since it’s been busy with its latest deal with Marvel Studios.
