Andrew Garfield’s verdict on Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is pure love

Andrew Garfield shared his admiration for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man portrayal in an exclusive interview with Page Six.

The actor spoke at the screening of his new film Magic Faraway Tree in New York City on July 30. “I think Tom is an incredible actor playing that character, and I love him and support him, and just want the best for him,” Garfield said. He also expressed his lifelong connection to the iconic Marvel superhero. “I love Tom. I love Spider-Man; I always have loved Spider-Man since I was 3 years old,” he added.

The 42-year-old actor revealed his excitement for Holland’s upcoming Marvel venture Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The film swings into theaters on July 31. “I’m very, very excited to see the film,” Garfield said while sharing his enthusiasm about the franchise’s future.

Garfield portrayed the web-slinging hero in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man and its 2014 sequel. He became the second actor to take on the role for Sony after Tobey Maguire. Maguire originally brought the character to life in a trilogy spanning 2002 to 2007.

All three Spider-Man actors later reunited in Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021. The multiverse-driven blockbuster thrilled fans as Maguire and Garfield returned alongside Holland. Garfield previously told Esquire that joining the project was “honestly the most joyful thing ever.” He also quipped that “all the pressure was on Tom” while he and Maguire enjoyed a relaxed shoot.

Garfield additionally discussed Magic Faraway Tree on the red carpet that evening. The film co-stars Claire Foy and arrives in theaters on August 21. It tackles themes surrounding technology dependence and modern distractions. “I’m as addicted as anybody to my devices, and I do everything I can to try and mitigate it,” Garfield shared. He described time and quiet as “the last big commodity on the planet right now.”
