What happened in One Piece Chapter 1185?
The previous chapter begins with Reuven asking Candelle to teach Brook manners and combat. She later trains young Brook in sword fighting. During their training, Brook asks her whether she likes anyone. Candelle says the man she likes is a royal, which is why she trained hard in sword fighting, allowing her to stay close to him and protect him.
The chapter then shifts back to Brook and Shuri at the fountain. He recalls the World Government ship arriving in the kingdom and Candelle being bedridden for months. After she recovered, Reuven announced his engagement to Candelle. Brook then recalls the day Shuri was born, which Esperia celebrated with great joy.
The chapter then showcases a small montage of Brook and Shuri. The year she turns 15, a mysterious, toxic fog engulfs Esperia. It leads to the kingdom’s economic downfall and even affects the musical instruments. Sadly, Candelle falls ill and dies.
During a later training session, Shuri asks Brook why he hasn’t followed his dream of becoming a pirate. He says that he wants to repay his debt to her family first.
