Is Spider-Noir Canon to Spider-Verse or MCU Movies?

Spider-Noir, released on May 25, 2026, has made fans wonder whether it’s canon to either the Spider-Verse or the MCU movies. Created by Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, the superhero series follows a weary, experienced private investigator, Ben Reilly, who suffers a personal tragedy and is drawn into confronting his past. He’s then forced to become his heroic self for the city’s good. The series is set in 1930s New York.

While audiences have encountered the character in the Spider-Verse movies, curiosity has grown about whether the series is connected to that portrayal or stands apart from it.

Is Spider-Noir canon to the MCU or Spider-Man’s Spider-Verse movies?

Spider-Noir is not canon to the MCU or Spider-Verse movies. It’s also not the direct continuation or a prequel to either franchise, as it stands alone on its own two feet.

In a conversation with Empire, showrunner Uzeil has clarified that the series has no connection to either of the franchises, as it takes place in an entirely different universe. “It’s not a continuation of Into the Spider-Verse. Once Phil and Chris introduced the idea of the multiverse, I think you’re allowed to take things and make them your own,” he said.

In what viewers have observed in Spider-Verse movies, Spider-Noir is usually Peter Parker’s alter-ego, but that doesn’t appear to be the case in this series. The superhero is Reilly, who, even when considered a fake name for Parker in another universe, still makes his arc a lot different from the movies.

While the canon possibility might be ruled out, Nicholas Cage’s Spider could be incorporated in some way in a multiversal context in the future. This is similar to how they did it with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s web-slingers in both franchises. So, there are chances that in the future, Sony and the MCU team up to create a crossover project including all the Spider-Man variants from different universes. This concept could also potentially be explored in Spider-Noir’s next installments.
