The Punisher: One Last Kill does not mention Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. However, it does set up his upcoming appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
It was previously announced that Jon Bernthal will return as Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, in the upcoming Spider-Man installment. Since then, fans have hoped to see One Last Kill establish a connection between the two characters. However, the television special does not bring in the web slinger, nor does it mention him at all.
What One Last Kill does is pull Frank out of his depression and suicidal tendencies, getting him ready to face new enemies once again. At the beginning of the 48-minute-long feature, fans saw a grieving Frank contemplating suicide. He also grapples with hallucinations of people from his past. However, Frank soon finds himself taking down more bad guys as crime lord Ma Gnucci tracks him. The Gnucci family matriarch seeks revenge on Frank, who killed her husband and three sons, who were involved in the murder of Frank’s family.
Following a gruesome series of events and more bloodshed, Frank gets closer to taking Gnucci down. However, in the end, The Punisher chooses to save the family of a shop owner instead of killing Gnucci. He lets go of his plans to take down the crime family once and for all and complete his revenge.
This renewed sense of purpose breathes new life into Frank, who realizes that his work as The Punisher isn’t over. He puts back his skull vest, returning to rid the streets of violent criminals. This shows that Frank is ready to return as The Punisher in Spider-Man: Brand New Day in a “different tonality,” as described by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige (The Hollywood Reporter).
