The sixth episode of The Boys Season 5 featured The Legend, the former Senior Vice President of Hero Management for Vought American, and his interaction with Homelander. It initially appeared that Homelander planned to kill The Legend, but he ultimately allowed him to walk away after their conversation. So, why did Homelander suddenly spare The Legend despite seemingly having every reason to eliminate him?
Why didn’t Homelander kill the Legend in The Boys Season 5 Episode 6?
In The Boys Season 5 Episode 6, Homelander visited The Legend to learn what information he had already shared with Billy Butcher and his crew. It appeared that Homelander intended to kill the older man after their interaction, something that has become common behavior for the superhero throughout the series.
However, what The Legend said to Homelander appeared to affect him. The Legend became one of the few characters who spoke to Homelander like an ordinary person and did not seem intimidated by his power. It is possible that The Legend accepted the possibility of dying and therefore chose to speak honestly because he believed he was already doomed.
Additionally, The Legend neither begged Homelander nor tried to flatter him, unlike many characters around him. Instead, he spoke with authority and even offered advice. His tone resembled that of a father figure, which may have contributed to Homelander deciding not to kill him. Since Soldier Boy never acted as a positive authority figure in Homelander’s life, this interaction may have resonated with him on a deeper level.
However, during the conversation, The Legend mentioned Golden Geisha, which gave Homelander a clue about where to search next.
By the end of the episode, Homelander finally acquires the V1 and injects himself with it. This could potentially create major consequences in the remaining episodes of The Boys Season 5, as Homelander now appears to be nearly immortal.
