Stranger Things Season 5 has finally arrived, with fans noticing something different about Holly Wheeler. Many are confused why she looks so different in the finale, wondering why the character was recast.
Who is the new Holly Wheeler in Stranger Things Season 5 Vol. 1?
Holly Wheeler is played by Nell Fisher in Stranger Things Season 5.
The character was previously played by twin child actors Tinsley and Anniston Price in the first four seasons. Twins are often chosen for playing very young characters because of child labor laws that help protect them and manage the time they spend on set.
Once the children start getting older, continuity becomes an issue, as each twin may develop a different interpretation of how to play the character. So, this might be a contributing reason why the character was recast this season.
Additionally, Holly has grown up significantly and is no longer a preschooler. Now that she has become a notable face within the storyline, the show decided to recast the twins with young actress Nell Fisher.
Before her debut as Holly, Fisher honored the twins’ performances in an Instagram post in June. The actress shared a video montage of the twins in the show along with a caption, saying, “This kid. These girls. So lucky to take on this role.”
How old is Holly in Stranger Things Season 5 Vol. 1?
At one point during Stranger Things Season 5 Episode 4, it is revealed that Holly Wheeler and her classmates are somewhere between nine and ten years old.
However, fans have noticed some discrepancies regarding her actual age. In the first season, set in November 1983, Holly was reportedly three years old. Since Season 5 happens in November 1987, Holly is supposed to be seven years old.
However, the show has made her slightly older than she is supposed to be. Additionally, Nell Fisher, who has now stepped into the role, has recently turned fourteen. This is the reason why Holly seems much older in the final season, throwing fans off about her actual age.
