Cipher’s powers in Gen V Season 2 Episode 4’s ending explained
Gen V Season 2 Episode 4, “Bags,” finally answers the question that fans have been wondering since the premiere: what are Cipher’s powers?
At the end of the episode, Cipher is finally revealed to possess the power to control another person’s mind. Beyond this, the show does not reveal the full extent of his powers, only enough to show that he is not one to be underestimated. This revelation comes during Marie and Jordan’s fight, where he uses his powers to control Jordan and push Marie to unlock more of her abilities.
It all begins with Cipher forcing Jordan and Marie to fight each other in a public match and threatening to send Emma back to detention if they refuse. Despite their hesitation, they team up with Cate to uncover the secret hidden in the dean’s house. Meanwhile, Emma works with her new Starlighter friends to sabotage the fight.
While Jordan and Cate break into Cipher’s home to uncover the truth, Marie keeps Cipher preoccupied by asking him to train her. Later, when they regroup, Marie speculates that Cipher might not have any powers at all. She says she cannot feel any Compound V in his bloodstream and plans to expose him during the match. She urges Cate to get a confession out of him.
During the match, Emma plants a camera to record his confession. But things do not go according to plan. When Cate confronts Cipher, he reveals his powers by taking over Jordan’s mind and using her abilities to fight Marie. The episode ends with the realization that the dean poses a greater threat than ever. Furthermore, it is also revealed earlier that Marie could be more powerful than Homelander.
