In its opening debut, The Toxic Avenger box office numbers have been average, better than some predictions but worse than others. Projections for the film’s box office performance for its opening weekend have been unpredictable, mainly because the movie was left unrated due to the amount of gore (enough that many moviegoers had to leave the theaters). As horrors fans know, it took two years before this reboot of the original The Toxic Avenger made its way to theaters on August 29, 2025. Here’s how much Cineverse’s The Toxic Avenger (2023) starring Peter Dinklage has made so far.
How much has The Toxic Avenger made in 2025?
The opening weekend box office numbers for The Toxic Avenger is $1.75 million from August 29 to August 31. Extending this to the four-day weekend (which includes Monday), it earned $2.2 million.
These figures have been verified by Deadline, though it took a while before the box office results over the weekend came in for the film. More specifically, the movie earned $775,000 on Friday, $506,000 on Saturday, $495,000 on Sunday, and $445,000 on Monday.
The original projections for The Toxic Avenger have been all over the place. An August 22 report from BoxOfficeTheory predicted that the reboot would earn $2.5 million (somewhere between $2 million and $5 million) in its opening weekend and roughly $5.4 million overall (in the range of $4.5 million to $10 million). However, this prediction was knocked down substantially in an August 27 weekend forecast that had the movie’s weekend numbers drop to just $1.2 million over the four-day weekend. So the film’s actual $2.2 million figure over the same period is a slam dunk by comparison, though it’s under what was predicted earlier in August.
That said, the marketing for The Toxic Avenger was fairly limited in scope. A lot of theater chains didn’t release the trailer for the unrated film on their social channels, instead choosing to feature its waste-barrel popcorn bucket instead. Given that it is an unrated film, $2.2 million is a fairly good achievement, though it is much less than the $18.9 million that Cineverse’s Terrifier 3 made in its opener in October 2024.
Cineverse also announced that it has paired up with the non-profit Undue Medical Debt to donate at least $5 million to the organization depending on how much money The Toxic Avenger makes at the box office.
