Many superhero fans want to know The Toxic Avenger’s box office predictions as the film will finally be released on August 29, 2025 after being in limbo for several years. This reboot of the original 1984 The Toxic Avenger released at several venues and festivals in 2023, but it was unable to find a distributor due to the amount of gore and violence. This is despite the fact that it stars Peter Dinklage as the titular superhero, also named Toxie, given his prior roles as Eitri in Avengers: Infinity War and Bolivar Trask in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Fortunately, Cineverse finally secured the rights to The Toxic Avenger and hopes that it will perform well enough at the box office to at least break even.
What is are the box office projections for Peter Dinklage’s The Toxic Avenger?
The latest box office projections for The Toxic Avenger reboot is $2 million to $5 million for its 3-day opening weekend and between $4.5 million and $10 million at the domestic box office overall.
These forecast numbers are based on an August 8 report from Box Office Theory, which didn’t have many projections for the movie until now. In a separate report, BoxOfficePro has a lower box office prediction for the film at $2 million to $4 million, which isn’t that much of a difference. It admits that the remake “doesn’t have all that going for it,” but does remark that The Toxic Avenger “was well-received on the genre festival circuit in 2023.”
Cineverse released the surprise hit, Terrifier 3, last year that earned $18.9 million at the domestic box office, so the hope is that some of the hardcore horror fans who made that film a success will also come out to see The Toxic Avenger.
One of the possible stumbling blocks for the film, though, is that there will be several movies in September that could slow its momentum, including The Conjuring: Last Rites, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle, and the superhero duo of Superman 2025 and The Fantastic Four: First Steps that will still in theaters then.
