Curious about Tramell Tillman’s mystery role in Spider-Man 4: Brand New Day? His casting has sparked wide speculation, with fans debating whether he could appear as an ally, a mentor, or even a new villain.
Here’s a look at the biggest theories and what his role might mean for Spider-Man’s future.
List of characters who Tramell Tillman could be playing in Spider-Man 4
Earth-616’s Norman Osborn
According to Variety, Tramell Tillman has officially joined the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day in an undisclosed role. His casting has sparked speculation about who he might play. One theory points to Norman Osborn, a character recently introduced in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, voiced by Colman Domingo.
In that animated series, Osborn acts as a mentor to Peter Parker instead of a traditional villain. This creates a distinct take from Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin in No Way Home. The animated Osborn provides guidance and support, offering a new angle on Spider-Man’s relationship with him.
Although the show exists in a separate continuity, the MCU could use a similar approach in live action. Osborn may first appear as a guiding figure before evolving into a larger antagonist. If Marvel chooses this path, Tramell Tillman could embody Earth-616’s Osborn and create a bridge between Marvel’s animated projects and live-action films.
Miles Morales’ father, Jefferson Davis
Tillman’s casting secrecy has also fueled theories that he could be playing Jefferson Davis, the father of Miles Morales. While Kevin Feige previously stated that Miles is unlikely to appear until after Sony concludes its Spider-Verse films, Marvel could introduce Davis as groundwork.
The animation depicts Davis as a New York police officer and supportive family figure. Deadline separately announced the addition of The Bear’s Liza Colón-Zayas to the cast, which increased speculation that she could portray Rio Morales, Miles’ mother, and strengthened the possibility of the Morales family entering the MCU.
Alistair Smythe, aka Spider-Slayer
Another widely discussed possibility is Alistair Smythe, who in the comics engineers the Spider-Slayers—robotic hunters designed to capture Spider-Man. Reports of leaked concept art and set designs resembling Spider-Slayer armor have fueled this theory.
With Michael Mando confirmed to return as Scorpion, Smythe could logically tie into his storyline, as the character is known for enhancing villains through technology. Tillman’s casting in such a secretive role aligns with the potential introduction of Smythe as a central antagonist in Brand New Day.
Another teacher of Peter Parker
Given Spider-Man’s return to a grounded, street-level story post-No Way Home, Tillman could also appear in a smaller role. He might play one of Peter Parker’s new college professors.
This would echo J.B. Smoove’s casting in Far From Home, where fans speculated about J. Jonah Jameson, or a new villain, but he ultimately portrayed a teacher. As Peter builds a new life without MJ and Ned remembering him, a character in his academic environment, possibly even Dr. Curt Connors, the Lizard, could provide fresh dynamics.
Kang the Conqueror
Tillman’s name has surfaced in MCU rumors as a possible recast for Kang the Conqueror after Jonathan Majors’ 2023 conviction and removal from the role. Insider Jeff Sneider reported on The Hot Mic that Marvel “has a plan to say goodbye to Kang” in Avengers: Doomsday (December 18, 2026), with speculation that Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom could kill the character.
Sneider mentioned Tramell Tillman, best known for Severance, as the actor Marvel might cast for Kang’s final arc, though Variety’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day exclusive did not link him to the role.
Marvel will release Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31, 2026.
